A wealthy business man who thinks he is paying too much in child support asked his legislator (to whom, of course, he contributed money) to draft legislation which would lower his child support.

First, his brilliance. Second, his loyalty. Finally, his passion. He was a fascinating lawyer and person. Rest in peace, Jon Peter.

It appears this documentary takes a few outrageous examples and extrapolates to those being the rule rather than the exception. It may make good hype for the news media, but it is poor logic and not reality.

My friend Sandy Swartzberg and I thought it might be interesting to co-write an article on the business divorce.

A contempt finding against the husband in a divorce case who quit his job and stopped making all court-ordered payments.

The article is a proposed New Year’s resolution for divorced parents to their children.

Valuing a marital estate and determining property division and spousal support in a divorce requires extra care when one of the spouses owns a business. Extra care is needed to protect the livelihood of the business owner and to ensure the non-business-owning spouse receives a fair share.
